Kybella FAQ
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable that is used to permanently destroy unwanted fat. It
destroys fat cells, eliminating their ability to store or accumulate fat.
How does Kybella work?
As explain on Kybella website, “The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic
deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body
that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected to the fat
beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in
fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or
accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired
aesthetic goal.”
Does it hurt?
Ice pack or topical anesthesia can be applied prior to treatment. The procedure is
well tolerated.
What are the side effects?
Most common reactions are redness, swelling, pain at injection site, bleeding,
bruising/hematoma, and nerve injury causing temporary numbness.

What is the downtime?
Mid to moderate swelling immediately after your treatment is expected. This can
be camouflaged with clothing. Moderate swelling may last up to 72 hours and mild
swelling may persist for up to 12 weeks.
When will I see results?
Noticeable results are usually visible in 60-90 days.
How many treatments will I need?
Per the Kybella website, “The number of treatments varies from patient to patient.
Your healthcare specialist will help determine how many treatment sessions you
need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your
personal treatment goals. Each KYBELLA® treatment session is given at least 1
month apart, and you should not receive more than 6 treatments. In clinical
studies, 59% of patients received 6 treatments.”
Can I receive Kybella if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
Kybella injections are not used in anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding.
