Preparing for Your Appointment
-
For maximum results please prepare for your appointment with the treatment area shaved with 1-2 days of stubble.
-
It is important to stop waxing or plucking hairs at least 3 days prior to your laser hair reduction treatment.
-
Avoid sun exposure to treatment area. The risk of burns and pigmentation changes increases dramatically when skin is creating pigmentation in response to sun exposure.
-
Stop the application of self tanner and tanning beds 3-4 weeks prior to treatment.
-
Discontinue use of photosensitivity medications such as Doxycycline, Minocycline, Isotretinoin (Sotret), Claravis, Amnesteem, PDT)
-
If you have a history of cold sores your provider may prescribe an antiviral. Notify your provider if you have a history of seizures or migraines. You may not have a active rash or infection in the treatment area. Avoid of Accutane for at least 6 months is required.
-
You can not have this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Post Treatment Guidelines
-
Redness and swelling around the hair follicles in the treated area is sometimes noted with a few minutes after the completion of the procedure typically resolving
-
within 24-48 hours.
-
A sunburn sensation in the area treated is normal and expected. Be gentle to treatment area(s). DO NOT pick or scratch at your skin. Until sensitivity resolves avoid the following:
-
Applying makeup over treatment area.
-
Use of scented lotions or soaps, deodorants, exfoliant creams (Retin A, glycolic/ salicylic and alpha-hydroxy acids), acne creams or gels, loofa sponges and aggressive scrubbing.
-
Hot or cold water-wash with tepid water.
-
Shaving
-
Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
-
Activities that cause excessive perspiration.
-
-
Cool compress or wrapped ice pack can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is especially warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours.
-
Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect.
-
In the unusual case of crusting of the skin in the treated area, apply an antibiotic ointment twice a day to the affected areas. Do not pick at these areas, this may result in infection or scarring.
-
If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and contact the office immediately. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sun exposure.
-
In rare cases, hives have been reported after laser hair reduction treatments. If you experience an irritated raised rash after the treatment contact the office.
-
Do not use other hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments (tweezing, waxing, and depilatories) as it will prevent you from achieving your best results.
-
Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for 14 days. The treated area is
-
more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sunblock with a protection factor of SPF 30+. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment.
-
Hair may take up to 4 weeks, or in some cases, as little as a few days to fall out following treatment. Do not be alarmed if hairs appear to be “growing” during this time.

BBL Forever Bare Hair Reduction FAQ

What is BBL (Broadband Light) for hair reduction?
BBL is an innovative light based technology that utilizes pulses of light energy to gently penetrate into the skin and specifically target, disable and destroy unwanted hair follicles. This noninvasive treatment is a comfortable and easy treatment for the age old problem of unwanted body hair.

How does BBL work?
BBL delivers excellent photo thermal energy to hair follicles. By selecting the appropriate wavelength for hair reduction, we will be able to tailor the treatment to your skin type in order to achieve optimal results.

Hair grows in three stages. When hair is in the anlagen stage (growth) it is most vulnerable to light therapy. BBL selectively heats the full length of the imbedded hair follicle cutting off its supply of nutrients, thus disabling its growth. Because
all hair is not always in the anlagen stage at one time, multiple treatments must be given over time to treat it while it is in the anlagen stage. Your clinician will design a treatment series to reflect your desire for hair reduction in particular body locations.
What areas can be treated?
BBL hair reduction offers patients a safe, fast, and effective alternative for dealing with unwanted hair. BBL is safe enough to be used on any part of the body (face, neck, underarms, bikini lines, legs, arms).
Can tanned skin be treated?
An active tan from the sun or tanning beds is not appropriate for treating with BBL. Tanned skin has a lot of pigment or melanin that may also absorb the BBL light energy intended for the hair follicles. It is recommended that a person does not have sun exposure in the area to be treated for at least 3 weeks prior to treatment. Self tanners must be faded from skin for at least a week to 10 days prior to treatment.

How long will it take to recover?
Your healing time will depend upon your treatment. In most cases, there is virtually no downtime and you may resume daily activities immediately. You may experience some redness after the procedure.
