Preparing for Your Visit
-
Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to any event/vacation. Redness, bruising and flaking may be present during that time.
-
Avoid of Accutane for one year is required.
-
Discontinue Retinol 24-48 hours prior to procedure to reduce sensitivity.
-
Avoid alcohol and cigarettes 24-48 hours before and after your treatment. These may increase risk of bruising and bleeding.
-
If you have a history of cold sores your provider may prescribe an antiviral.
-
If you have a history of long standing steroid use (Prednisone or Dexamethasone) please notify your provider.
-
If you have a history of keloid scar formation, connective tissue disorder, infectious disease, compromised immune system or delayed wound healing please notify your provider.
-
You may not have a active rash or infection in the treatment area.
-
You can not have this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Post Treatment Guidelines
-
Redness and swelling are normal and may occur immediately post treatment and can last up to a few days.
-
The treated area may be extremely warm for 1-2 hours after the treatment.
-
Warmth may continue for 12-24 hours after treatment.
-
Cool compress, wrapped ice pack or mineral spray water can be used during this time to help provide comfort.
-
Tylenol can be used for discomfort.
-
Sleep face up and slightly elevated. This may help reduce swelling.
-
Use soft cloth and soft towels to avoid scrubbing.
-
Make up can be worn once peeling process is complete.
-
Take extra precaution to guard against sun exposure immediately following the procedure. It is very important to use SPF 30+ after treatment.
-
Wearing a wide brim hat or protective clothing for 2 months post treatment to avoid blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
-
When showering avoid getting shampoo directly on treated area.
-
Avoid strenuous exercise and sweating until the skin has healed.
-
MENDS (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) will appear on the 2nd or 3rd day after treatment as tiny dark spots and bronzed appearance to the treated skin.
-
MENDS are part of the normal healing process where treated tissue is working its way out of your body as new fresh skin is regenerated. During this time, your skin will be very dry and feel like sandpaper before flaking and peeling off. Keep your skin well moisturized to support the healing process.
-
DO NOT pick your skin.
-
Notify provider immediately if you experience any sign of infection such as purulent drainage, increased warmth around treated area, fever or extreme itching.
Post Moxi Skincare Routine
-
Cleanse the skin two times daily with plain, lukewarm water and gentle cleanser beginning the morning after treatment. Use your hands and gentle patting motion.
-
DO NOT rub, scrub, use an exfoliant or skin care brush on the treated areas.
-
Moisturizer should be applied generously with clean hands over treated area and reapplied whenever your skin feels dry. DO NOT apply any other products that were not instructed by your provider. For example, essential oils, coconut oil, etc.
-
Sunscreen is a MUST. SPF 30+ should be used daily beginning the day after treatment and consistently for up to 3 months post procedure. Use a physical sunscreen with Broadband UVA and UVB protection. Make sure to reapply frequently during sun exposure.
MOXI FAQ
What is Moxi?
Moxi is a fractionated 1927nm wavelength non ablative skin rejuvenation treatment. It can be used to treat skin textural concerns, lightens pigmentation and promotes skin cell renewal.
How does Moxi work?
It is a fractionated 1927nm wavelength non ablative laser that targets water. It is FDA cleared for actinic keratosis, benign pigmented lesions such as but not limited to lentigos (age spots), solar lentigos (sun spots), and ephelides (freckles).
How many treatments will I need?
Initially, you will need 2-6 treatments depending on the severity of tone and texture of the skin. After initial treatments it is recommended to maintain the results by doing 2-3 treatments per year.
When will I see results?
Results are dependent on how many treatments are needed for the severity of tone and texture. Each treatment helps eliminate these issues. Over the course of 4-6 weeks after treatment you will start seeing improvement in the tone, texture
and overall health of your skin.
How long do Moxi results last?
Results of Moxi treatments are permanent as we are repairing and stimulating your skin’s natural collagen and elastin. We are also breaking down melanocytes that cause pigmentation. However, we are also constantly regenerating cell damage due to internal and external factors which is why we recommend maintaining your yearly treatments to ensure we are preventing and repairing any cell damage.
Will I need to recover?
After your Moxi treatment you will immediately feel heat on your skin that may last up to 48 hours subsiding over time. It is important to keep your body temperature down during this time which means no saunas, hot tubs, sun exposure or tanning beds. You will also need to keep the skin moisturized during the healing time of about 7-10 days.
MENDs (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris) will appear on the skin. This will look and feel like fine sand texture. This will naturally flake off over time. It is important that you are gentle with your skin while the MENDs heal. Swelling is common and normal immediately after treatment.
It is recommended not to wear makeup while your skin heals.
