Fall into a New Routine: Transitioning Your Skincare Regime From Summer

Fall is here, and that means cooler weather, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spice lattes.

But it also means that your skin may need some extra attention to adjust to the change. The dry air, lower humidity, and indoor heating can all take a toll on your skin, leaving it dull, dry, and prone to irritation. So you know what that means – bathroom counter clean-out time!

While all these switches are up to personal preference and the tolerance of your skin to the elements, it’s always good to be mindful of the changing of the seasons on your body. If it isn’t skincare, still use this transition to take care of yourself, inside and out!

#1: Switch to a gentle cleanser

In the summer, you may have used a foaming or gel cleanser to remove excess oil and sweat from your skin.

But in the fall, you may want to switch to a creamier or oil-based cleanser that won’t strip your skin of its natural moisture. Look for cleansers that contain hydrating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or ceramides. These will help your skin retain water and prevent dryness.

One of our favorite cleansers for fall is the Epionce Milky Lotion Cleanser. It gently removes dirt, makeup, and impurities without drying out your skin. It’s non-foaming and helps combat a dry, scaly texture that colder, dry air may cause.

#2: Add in that serum you’ve been eyeing

Serums are concentrated formulas that deliver active ingredients deep into your skin.

They can help address specific skin concerns like dullness, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, or redness. This fall, you may want to add a serum that contains antioxidants, such as vitamin C or niacinamide. Antioxidants help protect your skin from environmental damage, such as UV rays and pollution. They also help brighten your complexion and even out your skin tone.

One of our favorite serums for fall is the Epionce Intense Defense Serum. It contains linseed extract, raspberry seed oil, and more that help boost your skin’s radiance and resilience.

#3: Upgrade your moisturizer - think a little heavier

As the temperature drops and the humidity heads south, your skin may need more hydration than usual.

It’s a smart move to upgrade your moisturizer from a lightweight lotion to a richer cream or balm. Look for moisturizers that contain occlusive ingredients, such as shea butter, petrolatum, or lanolin. These create a protective layer on top of your skin and prevent water loss. They also help seal in the benefits of your serum and other products.

One of our favorite moisturizers for fall is the Epionce Intense Nourishing Cream. Don’t worry - it’s not too intense! It was named as the “Best Rich Moisturizer for Dry Skin” in Women’s Health Magazine Best of Skincare Awards 2020 and “Best for Dry Skin” by Prevention Magazine in the 2022 Healthy Skin Awards!

We also love the Obagi Hydrate moisturizer – it’s amazing for all skin types, and a staple that’s easy to stock up on. We carry Obagi in-store, and can help you decide if it’s the best option to add to your routine.

#4: Don’t forget SPF - the sun is still shining!

Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you can skip sunscreen – sorry SPF un-enthusiasts!

The sun’s rays are still strong and can cause premature aging and skin irregularities. That’s why you should always wear an SPF of at least 30 every day, even if it’s cloudy or rainy. Look for sunscreens that are broad-spectrum, meaning they protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

One of our favorite sunscreens for fall is the Epionce Daily Shield Tinted SPF. It contains rosemary extract and sunflower to help hydrate and soothe your skin.

We also love the non-comedogenic Matte SPF from Obagi. It’s a broad spectrum sunscreen that combines UVB and UVA protection in a soft, matte finish and is dermatologist-tested. You can find this SPF in our store!

#5: Add some extra TLC products in

Fall is a great time to pamper your skin with some extra TLC. But it’s not just any old excuse to treat yourself - times of transition can create added stress that can take a toll on your body, and therefore your skin.

Some optional TLC products you could try are:

  • Eye cream: The skin around your eyes is delicate and prone to dryness and signs of aging. An eye cream can help moisturize, smooth, and brighten this area. Look for eye creams that contain ingredients like caffeine, peptides, or retinol. These can help reduce puffiness, stimulate collagen, and improve elasticity.

  • Vitamin C serum: We mentioned serums earlier, but can’t stress how powerful Vitamin C serums are. It’s a powerful antioxidant that can help protect your skin from free radical damage, such as sun exposure and pollution. It can also help brighten your complexion and fade hyperpigmentation.

We personally are obsessed with the Obagi Vitamin C serum – it shows results in as little as 24 hours and brightens the appearance of discoloration. It uses both vitamin C as well as arbutin for a comprehensive solution. You can shop Obagi in our store!

  • 0.05% Tretinoin Cream from Obagi: Made for all skin types - but especially for blemish and acne-prone skin - this cream is your secret weapon against breakouts. We carry it in-store, so ask us if it’s right for your skin before you buy!

Enjoy the cooler weather without the inconveniences of skin emergencies. Treat yourself with grace, and give your skin a little extra attention as the temperature changes.

And if you’re looking to take the self-care to the next level, come see us about booking a facial — we love helping you choose the perfect treatment for whatever you’re facing skin-wise.

Happy Fall, y’all!
